“L’English Lunch” : une initiative de collaborateurs pour progresser en anglais

Sur l’hypothèse que la meilleure façon d’améliorer sa maîtrise d’une langue, c’est de prendre confiance quand on s’exprime à l’oral, nous créons un cadre qui donne aux collaborateurs l’opportunité de parler anglais sans souci des répercussions de leurs potentielles erreurs.

Par l’intermédiaire d’un Doodle, chacun des intéressés indique ses disponibilités. Notre déjeuner a en général lieu entre 12h30 et 13h30 et l’information sur les créneaux retenus est aussi disponible près de la machine à café, pour ceux qui souhaitent participer à l’improviste.

Pour le moment, les thèmes sont proches de notre travail : les conférences TED (Technology, Entertainment and Design) fournissent un nombre important de courtes vidéos, intéressantes et facilement compréhensibles sur les aspects de l’informatique et du digital. Après visualisation d’une vidéo, on clarifie le vocabulaire et on discute en anglais. Comme on a tous une opinion (forte), par exemple sur la sécurité et le piratage des données privées, le débat se lance très facilement. Pendant la discussion, on s’entraide sur les aspects du langage, et nous corrigeons aussi quelques fautes. L’objectif principal reste néanmoins de comprendre l’anglais, de s’exprimer et de se faire comprendre par les autres. La confiance s’installe progressivement.

Based on the hypothesis that daring to speak is the best way of improving our skills, we’re creating a context in which Hardis employees have the opportunity to speak English without worrying about the consequences of their potential mistakes.

Using Doodle, everyone interested provides information on their availability. Our Lunch normally takes place between 12:30 and 13:30 and the information on the session is also available near the coffee machine so that others can drop in as they wish.

At the moment, our subjects for discussion are related to our work: TED conferences provide many short, interesting and easily understandable videos on IT and Digital: After watching a video, we clarify the vocabulary and we converse in English. Everybody has a (strong) opinion on the selected topics, such as personal data privacy and theft, which makes it easier to get talking. During the discussion, we help each other with language questions, and correct some mistakes. The objective however remains to be able to understand English and to express oneself, in order to be understood and to gain confidence in doing so.
